The group set up by Yearly Meeting’s Committee has been working with Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham to arrange training in Quaker roles. The first round of these events for the support of Clerks, will begin in October 2011. We hope to follow this with training for other roles (eg Treasurers, Elders, Overseers and Nominations Committee members) and to bring a sample of Woodbrooke courses to Ireland.
Friends are asked to express an interest in the following:
- Preparation course for experienced clerks
This will be a residential weekend in a venue near Dublin for those with clerking experience, run jointly with a Woodbrooke tutor.
Participants are asked to attend the entire weekend and to be available to help organise and lead 2 further workshop events for clerks around the Yearly Meeting in 2012 and 2013, working in small groups of 2-3.
Costs will be subsidised. Participants may be asked to contribute and may be subsidised by their meetings. Interested Friends should send their contact details to office@quakers-in-ireland.ie.
Date: Friday 21 to Sunday 23 October 2011
2. Workshops for clerks:
These will be held in the next two years at times and in venues to be arranged, at least one in each Quarterly Meeting area.
Participants may be serving Clerks, Assistant Clerks or Friends contemplating clerking duties. Those interested please send their names and contact details to office@quakers-in-ireland.ie and further information will be sent when available.
Costs will be low, as it is hoped to use Quaker venues as much as possible. Participants or their meetings may be asked to make a small contribution.
Dates: to be arranged any time from November 2011.
