Memories of the Quakers are being revived in two important summer exhibitions. Quakers played a vital part in the creation of Mountmellick as a prosperous midlands town. Aspects of their work and faith are a major permanent feature in the Mountmellick Museum which is mounting a special exhibition of the Quaker Tapestry, an amazing work of art created towards the close of the 20th century. At the same time Mountmellick Library is showing a collection of the superb photographs taken in the 19th-20th centuries by the Quaker Jane Shackleton – details on Facebook Mountmellick Heritage Society. This exhibition will be open till the end of August.
