Ireland Yearly Meeting 2024 was held on 17-21 July at the Cork College of FET, Douglas Street Campus (formerly St. John’s Central College) in Cork City.
The final session, Meeting for Worship and lunch were held at the Cork Quaker Meeting House:
The theme was “The Spirit of Ubuntu” ; Ubuntu conveys the idea that we are all interconnected; one very short definition is Humanity to Others. Here is the final IYM2024 programme.
Texts and videos of some of the talks will be made accessible here and on the “Exploring Quaker Spirituality” section of the quakers.ie website once they are available. Here is what we have so far:
Text of talk on Wayfaring: A Guide to Guidance – Larry Southard
Recording of Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge’s Public Lecture
About 15 young people participated in the IYM2024 Children’s Programme. Activities included discussing the nature of Simplicity and making miniature Zen gardens
and making rubbings of leaves collected in the Cork Quaker Burial Ground, which were then used to make a “Communi-tree”, with things important for a strong community written on the leaves before they were attached to the tree.
Making the Communi-tree was definitely a community effort!
