Silence

Quakers believe that God can speak to or through anyone – man, woman or child – and that silence and stillness foster a state in which we can be more open to receiving guidance from the Spirit. For this reason, silence plays an essential role in Quaker spirituality. Our Meetings for Worship are unprogrammed and are rooted in silence. Quaker Business and Committee Meetings usually begin with a period of silent worship, before the business is addressed.
