Friends are reminded that the 6 October is World Quaker Day, providing an opportunity, on this the 400th anniversary of George Fox’s birth, to celebrate as a Meeting and also to raise awareness about our faith. You can find more information at https://fwcc.world/event/world-quaker-day-2024/
In previous years, Irish Meetings have done a variety of activities, such as organising Meetings in local parks, worshipping with other Meetings, both within Ireland and in other YMs and organising Children’s Meeting activities. Enjoy whatever you do to mark World Quaker Day!
The exhibition at the Lexicon Library, Dun Laoghaire “George Fox (1624-1691) and the Irish Quaker Tradition” is running over 6 weeks starting on Wednesday Sept. 4. A different talk is featured on each Wednesday evening of the exhibition.
The talk on September 18 will be “The Quaker Response to the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland”, presented by Felicity McCartney. The talk is free of charge and will start 6.00pm.

This talk organised by the Irish School of Ecumenics and the Loyola Institute will be given by Rev. Prof. Mitri Rahel during 6 – 7.30 pm, Wednesday, 25 Sep 2024 in the Robert Emmet Theatre, Arts Building, Trinity College Dublin.
Rev. Prof. Mitri Raheb (Author of Faith in the Face of Empire) is the most outspoken and widely published Palestinian liberation theologian (authored and edited over fifty books) who is the Founder/President of Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem. He served as the senior pastor of the Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem for thirty years.
The Lecture will be Chaired by Prof. Siobhán Garrigan Loyola Institute Chair and Professor of Catholic Theology in the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies, Trinity College Dublin.

The talk on September 11 will be “Quakers and the Arts”, presented by Peter Lamb. The talk is free of charge and will start 6.30pm.
Churchtown Meeting will host a talk at 7pm on Tuesday 10th September, in which three Friends will share their experiences of getting older gracefully – and beyond. The three speakers will be Janice Johnston, David Kingston and Iris Taylor.
Following worship, each contributor will give a short talk. There will be time for questions followed by a discussion. Refreshments will then be served before finishing by 9.00 pm.

The IndieCork Festival is delighted to welcome the director Emmet Sheerin for the screening of the film Who Would Jesus Bomb? in Cork on Thursday August 29th at 6.30pm.
Around 3 million US troops have gone through Ireland’s Shannon Airport since 2002. Who Would Jesus Bomb? explores Ireland’s complicity in the global War on Terror, and how a small number of Christian activists risked their freedom trying to stop the American war machine and save lives. The phrase, “who would Jesus bomb” comes out of a group of Christian evangelical youth, who took to wearing bracelets with “WWJB” on them. This documentary has screened at several high profile festivals, and the film will be introduced by director Emmet Sheerin. There will be time for Q&A following the film.
