The recently established Sojourner Truth House is a small, community-based house of hospitality in Calais, France, offering a place of welcome, rest, safety, and dignity to women and children navigating displacement along the UK-France border, together with those accompanying them.

South Belfast Quakers have been raising funds to support Sojourner Truth House through a series of Summer lunches following Meeting for Worship – the last one is on August 30. Don’t miss it!

The free public lecture “The Cross and the Olive Tree: Theology amid Gaza”, based on the book by the same name, will be given by Samuel Salim Munayer on Thursday 6 August at 10.00am at the Trinity College Dublin E3 Building, Room 2.031.

This film, produced by Building Bridges for Peace, will be shown at ST. MARY’S UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, FALLS ROAD, BELFAST on this coming Friday 31 July at 5.00pm.  It is free and you don’t have to book. The documentary depicts a real example of post-conflict reconciliation between Britain and Northern Ireland through the journey of Jo Berry and Pat Magee. The film will be followed by questions and answers by Pat and Jo.

In 1937, the well known American Quaker Rufus M Jones wrote  “…I have become a good deal disillusioned over ‘big’ conferences and large gatherings. I pin my hopes to quiet processes and small circles, in which vital and transformative events take place.”

It is in the spirit of these words that you are invited to set time aside on the third Saturday of each month, when the Limerick Meeting House will be open for an hour from 2.00-3.00pm for those who wish  to join others silently “sitting for peace”.

The next of these monthly silent vigils for peace will take place on Saturday 15th Aug from 2.00 – 3.00pm.

Please feel free to invite others to share this time of holding an intention for peace in silence together.

Temple Hill Committee is organising a work party at the Burial Ground on August 15 10.30-12.30, and would be pleased to welcome Friends to come along and help with various tasks around the grounds, clearing undergrowth, removing rubbish etc.

Coffee and tea will be available, please bring your own mug. Please bring gardening gloves and wear appropriate clothing.

Friends might like to consider bringing a picnic to enjoy when the work is done.

This fundraising concert for the Newtown School Development Fund will take place at The Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely, Co. Wicklow, on Saturday, 8^th August 2026, from 19:30 to 22:00. Doors open at 19.00.

A burst water main occurred on Sunday night in Enniscorthy, with photos showing a large stream of water cascading down the downhill areas of the Shannon, Springvalley, and surrounding areas. As you can see, this didn’t spare the Enniscorthy Meeting House, where the small meeting room of the older part of our building was flooded.

The Limerick Fun with Friends group has arranged to visit a wheelchair accessible conservation area in Kanturk, Co. Cork on Sunday July 12 during 2-4pm. Friends plan to bring a packed lunch and eat it at the picnic tables there.

The conservation area has two different lovely walks and a host of wild plants, flowers, insects, birds, small mammals and a pond too. 

All Friends are welcome.
