IYM Epistles

An Epistle is a document written during a Quaker gathering, such as a Yearly Meeting. The Epistle is intended to convey a sense of the collective experience of those attending the gathering, and how the Spirit has moved among Friends during the gathering. It is approved by those attending the gathering before it is issued. Epistles are typically shared with other Quaker Yearly Meetings, so that Friends in one part of the world can learn about challenges and joys encountered by Friends in other parts of the world. Epistles were historically, and continue to be, an important way for Friends to learn about each other. They help us appreciate that we are part of a world family of Friends.
